The short story of my first rip off from eBay

Well, you know it had to happen at one point - after 283 individual transactions with a rating of 176/100% on eBay - I had my first time being ripped off. It being only $6.25 doesn't make it too bad, but the principle of it bites.


It was for an auction selling this comic:

ARIA ANGELA #1 DEALERS RARE REFRACTOR SIGNED BOOK!

Could have cared less about the signed part - only wanted it due to the refractive cover.

Well, the initially listed the would take PayPal. Then when I won the auction, it seems they didn't actually take PayPal - they seemed to have forgetten to uncheck that when they made the auction entry. So they wanted cashier's Check /MO only. DOn't like doing that, but at the time they had a pretty high rating and only only had one negative from a guy that was a while ago. So I took the chance (especially since it was under $10) and sent out a Cahsier's Check.

Well, that was back in early November.

Come the beginning of December I still hadn't seen the comic. So I started send e-mails on a weekly basis with zero response.

Somce the beginning of January you started seeing them start giving a lot of negative feedbacks to and reciving a lot from buyers where they were cashing checks on not receiving the items. I sent some more e-mails and confirmed with the bank that the Cashier's check I sent had been cashed......

Mid January I did about all I had left after trying to get them to send the comic out even requesting mediation and being told they weren't responding; I left Negative Feedback for them. Simple text relating to my check being cashed and them not responding to e-mails I sent.....nothing vulgar, pissed off, or obscene.....

Then a week later I get Negative feed back left for me....and this was actually funny. You check all my other feedback and they comment on how fast I pay and how easy I am to work with....they leave "BUYER WOULD NOT PROVIDE PROOF OF PAYMENT. FAILED TO PAY US FOR THIS! [img]frown.gif[/img] " Which implies they talked to me on not receiving payment, even though the chaeck was cashed.

The comments went back and forth with them saying how they contacted me on a daily basis asking for payment and I never responded and how I should be avoided at all cost as I am a vulgar scammer.

well, then - a couple of days later I get this nice long apologetic style e-mail from the apparenet president of the place I won the comic from saying he doesn't know what has happened and would like to retract all feedback and ship me out the comic.

So this now tells me that if they actually sent me an e-mail, I would have gotten it as I got this one.......a day or so of talking with him over e-mail to make sure it wasn't just someone trying to get the commnets removed, I agreed. Atleast it removed the one negative counter from me, even if I didn't expect to get the comic. There was a sliver of hope though...

Well I still hadn't seen anything from them this week and decided to head out and see what is happening. I sent another e-mail, nothing. Then I look on eBay.

Well, they are no longer a registered user. [img]frown.gif[/img]

Also looks like there was in influx of the same stuff that happened to me. Them leaving feedback saying the person didn't pay, and that nothing was received.

Oh well, I guess 1/280+ with <$10 isn't too bad.

Seriously tho, that does suck. At least it wasn't more money. I have resigned myself to only paying with Paypal using my credit card now on Ebay. That way if I get a crappy seller and Ebay/Paypal won't do anything about it I can always do a chargeback with my CC company. The best part is the seller will get charged $10.

Yeah - I have paid for cash on 2 items from eBay (This being one of them). Both were under $10 (the one that came through was only $3 shipped).

and I bid on that one because it initially listed PayPal up until just before it ended and he changed it.

Oh well. Not like I don't have enough different covers of that issue [img]smile.gif[/img]

ebay should pony up with USPS and get a MO tracking system.

simply enter the # on the money order when u send it to the seller, and its all fine and trackable from there on out.

ANYTIME is send a money order i use delivery confirmation on the envelop. its an easy 45 cent headache saver.

This one I got lazy on and had it sent from the bank through our online banking option we have.

I try not to ever send cash for anything on eBay - the only two times it has happened, they both listed PayPal as being accepted, and then at the end informed me they wouldn't (after winning). They were both well under $10 - so a small risk. This one didn't pan out unfortunately.

That is a good idea Bonedust - be nice if they would.

Last summer when that fuckhead ripped me off on the 18" Freddy, I noticed he likes to nail people who nailed him with neg feedback, so we just waited for the 90 days to be seconds from up before leaving the negative feedback for him, so he had no way of getting us back!
